Matthew 2:1-12

It was the third Sunday of Advent this past weekend, and we are moving steadily through Matthew 1-2 over this month. In 2:1-12, we read the familiar story of the Magi visiting Jesus. But while this passage can sometimes be remembered for its remarkable pieces (namely the Star of Bethlehem!), it is truly at its core a story about Jesus’s birth fulfilling the promised word God gave in the Old Testament.
